OUR FOUNDER
Salahudin Gary was born in Newark, NJ and has deep roots in his community. He graduated from Caldwell College in 2006 with a BA degree in Communication Arts. Mr. Gary has been employed with the East Orange Board of Education since 2011 as an educator and sits on various boards. He has over fifteen years of experience managing nonprofit fiscal budgets of more than $1 million dollars annually.

Salahudin Gary is affectionately known by his students, their parents, and members throughout the community as “Mr. Sal”. He has made it his life’s mission to increase the quality of life for underserved communities.
To date, Legacy Writings Foundation has serviced over 500 families through their Christmas and Back to School events where they gave out toys and school supplies. Since it was founded, its monthly budget has increased by 5%. The Organization is currently run by volunteers and hopes to employ 2 full-time employees and 4 part-time employees in the near future.
